Food Alliance Partners with Walmart to Protect Pollinators

At Food Alliance, we’re proud to be recognized as a third-party certification program for Walmart that verifies Integrated Pest Management (IPM) adoption and supports practices that protect pollinator health.

This recognition aligns with Walmart’s Pollinator Health Position, which encourages suppliers of fresh produce, floral, and live plants to implement IPM strategies and work with credible certification programs that include robust, pollinator-protective criteria.

Food Alliance certification has long upheld these values. Our IPM standards go beyond compliance by emphasizing prevention, monitoring, and ecological balance. Certified producers commit to practices that:

  • Reduce reliance on synthetic pesticides

  • Protect and enhance pollinator habitat

  • Encourage biodiversity and beneficial insect populations

  • Use data-driven monitoring to inform responsible pest control decisions

  • Document their progress through transparent, third-party verification

As highlighted in our recent blog, Understanding Integrated Pest Management, IPM is not a single practice but a whole-farm approach– one that prioritizes long-term ecological health and resilience. By focusing on prevention and ecosystem balance, IPM helps farmers manage pests in ways that benefit both productivity and the natural environment.

Pollinators are essential to our food systems, and the choices we make at every level (from farm to retail) can help protect their future. Food Alliance is honored to play a role in verifying and uplifting the producers who are taking this responsibility seriously, demonstrating that sustainability and productivity can thrive hand in hand.
