Client Spotlight: Enfield Farms

Generations of Berries, Grounded in Stewardship

Nestled in the fertile soils of Northwest Washington’s Whatcom County, Enfield Farms has spent more than 45 years cultivating exceptional berries with care and intention. As one of the nation’s premier growers and processors of red raspberries and blueberries, this family-run operation is guided by a multi-generational commitment to quality, sustainability, and community.

Founded in 1977 by the Enfield family, the farm has grown from modest beginnings into a vertically integrated operation that spans more than 1,200 acres. Today, Enfield Farms manages every step of the process—from field to freezer—ensuring full traceability and unmatched freshness in every berry. Their processing facility, one of the most advanced in the region, allows them to wash, freeze, and package berries within hours of harvest.

At the heart of Enfield Farms is a philosophy of stewardship. Their team actively invests in practices that promote long-term soil health, reduce inputs, and conserve water. Through drip irrigation, cover cropping, and integrated pest management, Enfield Farms ensures that their berries are grown with both ecological responsibility and flavor in mind.

Their commitment to continuous improvement also extends to research. Enfield Farms works closely with the Northwest Plant Company, Washington State University, and USDA researchers to trial new raspberry cultivars—pioneering the future of berry genetics, disease resistance, and flavor development. These efforts not only benefit their own fields but contribute to the advancement of berry farming across the region.

The farm is also deeply rooted in its community. As one of the largest berry employers in Whatcom County, Enfield Farms provides jobs to hundreds of seasonal and full-time employees each year. They prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and on-site housing to support the well-being of their team—many of whom return season after season and form the backbone of the farm's success.

Enfield Farms has been Food Alliance Certified since 2012, and sees transparency and third-party verification as central to their business values. “Transparency is a key pillar of our operation,” says Andy Enfield, President of Enfield Farms. “We value Food Alliance as a partner in this work—helping us tell our story clearly, honestly, and with integrity. The certification gives our customers confidence that we are backing up our values with action.”

At Food Alliance, that commitment does not go unnoticed. “We’re proud to work with producers like Enfield Farms who are deeply invested in doing things the right way,” says Shaila Cook, Certification Program Director at Food Alliance. “Their dedication to sustainable farming and continuous improvement is inspiring. They lead by example—not just in the field, but across the entire food system.”

As a Food Alliance Certified producer, Enfield Farms exemplifies the kind of agricultural leadership we’re proud to recognize—where environmental integrity, social equity, and business resilience come together.

So the next time you savor a tart raspberry or sweet blueberry from the freezer, you may be tasting the care, innovation, and legacy of Enfield Farms—one berry at a time.
