Food Alliance

Food Alliance defines sustainability in agriculture and the food industry with comprehensive sustainability standards and a voluntary third-party certification program that address a wide range of consumer and industry concerns.

 

Sustainability Standards

Food Alliance provides five standards that define sustainability practices in agricultural production, food processing, and distribution. The Food Alliance Sustainability Standards are based on the following principles:

  • Protect, conserve and enhance soil, water, wildlife habitat and biodiversity
  • Conserve energy, reduce and recycle waste
  • Reduce use of pesticides and other toxic or hazardous materials
  • Maintain transparent and traceable supply chains
  • Support safe and fair working conditions
  • Guarantee food product integrity, with no genetically engineered or artificial ingredients
  • Ensure healthy, humane animal treatment
  • Ensure continual improvement of practices

Third-Party Certification

Food Alliance Certified

With clear standards and criteria, Food Alliance certification is a practical, credible, and effective way for agricultural producers and food companies to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability in agricultural practices and facilities management.

Today, there are more than 330 Food Alliance Certified operations throughout North America managing more than five and half million acres.

Food Alliance Certified products include meats, shellfish, eggs, dairy, mushrooms, grains, legumes, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, and prepared products made with these certified ingredients.
